I loaded Office 2008 on my Macbook with a 2.0 GHZ processor and 2GB RAM and it loaded very slowly. Almost as slowly as with Office 2004. But, once it was open, it was pretty snappy. Now, I have a MacPro (8-core) and Word and Excel still load slowly. Every other application opens before I've decided I really wanted to open it, but not the Microsoft programs. Maybe it depends on your level of disdain for the product - which for me, is high. I have to agree with Andrew.
