Go Deeper Than the Podcast

You already read the blog and listen to the shows. The Labs is the next step. Extra videos and posts every week, the Lab Report, live meetups with David, and a room full of people who are just as into this as you are.

Three tiers, monthly or yearly. Cancel anytime.

Why the Labs

The free stuff only goes so far

The MacSparky blog and the podcasts are good. They are also, by design, the surface. A blog post can tell you a feature exists. It can’t sit next to you while you actually build the workflow.

The Labs is where that happens. It’s the room behind the curtain. Every week David shares the experiments, the tutorials, and the workflows he’s actually running, in enough detail to copy.

And you get to ask. When something doesn’t click, you bring it to a meetup or the community and get a real answer instead of a guess. You also get to do it alongside people who find this stuff as fun as you do.

What you get

Four parts, one membership

A Labs membership is a content library, a standing line to David, a place to learn together, and a community of fellow productivity nerds. Here’s how each one works.

An Exclusive Content Library

Extra videos and posts every week, the kind that don’t run on the free blog. The moment you join, everything from before you joined is yours too.

  • Weekly tutorial videos and behind-the-scenes posts
  • The Lab Report, a weekly Apple news podcast
  • The full back catalog at your tier

Direct Access to David

Stop wondering what David would do and ask him. The Labs puts you in the same room, on a regular schedule.

  • Monthly meetups on Zoom, with your questions answered live
  • Monthly Deep Dives into advanced workflows
  • Quarterly planning sessions to map out your next 90 days

Learn Together

The best parts of the Labs are the live ones. You show up, you work, and you come away with something you didn’t have an hour ago.

  • The Labs Book Club, a six-week community read with Zoom discussions
  • Jam Sessions, where the group digs into one tool together
  • The Momentum Club, co-working sessions for getting real work done

Find Your Tribe

A smaller community of people who get excited about the same things you do. Ask a question here and a real person answers, often the same day.

  • A private Circle community for Labs members
  • Live gatherings during Apple events, reactions and all
  • Ongoing conversations with people who share the obsession
The weekly habit

Start with the Lab Report

Every week David records the Lab Report, a ten-minute podcast that rounds up the Apple news worth knowing, with his candid take on it.

Members listen in whatever podcast app they already use. It’s the easiest habit in the Labs, and the one members bring up most. Several have told David they dropped their other Apple news feeds once the Lab Report had them covered.

The room

Where the productivity nerds hang out

Plenty of online communities are loud. The Labs is small on purpose. When you post something, real people read it. When you ask a question in a meetup, you get a real answer.

The live sessions are where it clicks. The monthly meetup turns into a working room. The book club ends with a list of ideas you want to try. The Jam Sessions and the Momentum Club put a group of people doing the thing together instead of just talking about it.

The membership runs a wide range. The common thread is curiosity about getting more out of the tools you already use.

LawyersSurgeonsTeachersMakersRetireesand a lot more

You don’t have to be loud to fit in. Some members never post and still get plenty out of it. Show up to a meetup once and you’ll see what I mean.

It all lives in a private Circle space, with the meetup recordings, the Book Club, the Jam Sessions, and the day-to-day conversation in one room.

David Sparks
Who runs the Labs

David Sparks

Writer, podcaster, and Field Guide maker. MacSparky since 2007.

David Sparks has been on a never-ending quest to be more productive with technology since programming his first computer in 1980. He started MacSparky in 2007 and has been at it ever since, publishing the blog, co-hosting the Mac Power Users and Focused podcasts, and making the MacSparky Field Guides.

The Labs is where he goes deeper. It’s the place he shares the workflows still in progress, the tools he’s testing, and the productivity ideas worth talking through with other people. No hype, no jargon. Just a working approach to technology, week after week, with a community along for the ride.

Questions

Before you join

Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. There’s no contract. Pick monthly or yearly, and cancel whenever you want from your member account. A monthly membership is an easy way to try the Labs with almost no commitment.
Do I get the older content, or just what comes next?+
You get it all. The moment you join, every video, post, and podcast episode at your tier is available, going back to the start of the Labs. New members often spend the first month working through the back catalog.
Can I switch tiers later?+
Anytime. Start as a Member and move up to Insider or Pathfinder when you’re ready, or step back down. Your membership adjusts from your account, no need to email anyone.
What’s the difference between the three tiers?+
Member is the content foundation. Insider adds the live stuff, meetups, interviews, Jam Sessions, and the Momentum Club. Pathfinder adds the Deep Dives, quarterly planning, early Field Guide access, and Pathfinder-only content. The comparison table above lays out every line.
Monthly or yearly?+
Either works. Yearly costs the same as ten months, so two months are free. Monthly keeps things flexible if you’d rather test the water first.
Do I need any special software?+
No. The videos and posts arrive by email and on the website, the Lab Report plays in any podcast app, and the live sessions run on Zoom. If you have a computer and an email address, you’re set.
Is the Labs the same as a Field Guide?+
No. A Field Guide is a finished course on one topic that you buy once. The Labs is an ongoing membership, a steady flow of new content, live sessions, and community. Many people do both. Pathfinders also get early access to Field Guides in production.
How do the meetups and live sessions work?+
They run on Zoom on a published schedule, and they’re recorded. If you can’t make one live, the replay lands in the content library so you never miss out.
