What Next Apple?

So we’ve had a few days and the reality distortion field is breaking up. People seem to be generally excited about the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros. The one major complaint I’ve heard is the removal of firewire from the MacBooks. I can appreciate this complaint but also must admit I don’t miss firewire on my MacBook Air at all. If I were to try and hook it up to my video camera and it was my only Mac however, I’d have two bags of hurt.

So I’m already now hearing people ask what Apple will possibly bring to Macworld. They’ve already released new iPods, new laptops, and they just updated the iMac design last year. So what is left? I’ve got no clue but I’m still burning a candle for the tablet device I asked for last year. Tim Robertson wrote an excellent article summarizing the last few Macworld announcements here. What do you think Steve will pull out of his bag of tricks this year?

    – A tablet would be neat to see at Macworld. But I hold out hope Apple TV will graduate from “hobby” status, a into the role of an amazing and must have living room product. I love my Apple TV, but I would love it even more if it sported an HD tuner or two. Maybe it could download applications for the app store too. Living room apps?

    @Joe:

    The only way I think that Apple TV will graduate from “hobby” status is if Mr. Jobs allows 1080p and when I say 1080p I mean….1080 fricken P movie downloads.
    No, I don’t mean the occasional 720p as is the current state of Apple TV movie downloads. He says that blu-rays are a “bag of hurt” but apple tv only offers only a limited number of HD titles and that HD is only 720p.
    Its sad imo.

    But truly though I’m holding out as well for a tablet type device of some sort. that OLPC concept with the two touch screens would be a nice prototype to consider for a Apple large portable multi-touch product. I just want to see how Apple themselves might design such a device.

    Yo Apple! Here is a hint…….*whispers* flexible oled screen tech. 😉

    “I just want to see how Apple themselves might design such a device. “

    This is key. The idea of such a tablet device sounds good to me, but it’s up to Jobs and Apple to create and present something that will surpass expectations and knock socks off, making other tablet devices seem silly in comparison.
