Ken Case posted the Omni Group’s Post-WWDC Roadmap Update a few weeks ago, and one line jumped out at me.

The Omni Group is now planning “first-class MCP support,” likely built through Omni Automation or App Intents. Case explained the team had been watching MCP, the Model Context Protocol that lets tools like Claude talk directly to an app, all year. They held off building anything because they didn’t want to duplicate whatever Apple built into App Intents. At WWDC26, Apple only shipped MCP support for Xcode. With that question settled, Omni is free to build its own.

I’m not surprised. OmniFocus, OmniOutliner, and OmniPlan have offered deep scripting through Omni Automation for years, long before App Intents existed. Case even mentioned that some customers have already wired up MCP servers to Omni’s apps using those existing Automation APIs. I know several people in my own community who’ve done exactly that. They hand-rolled their own OmniFocus MCP servers because they didn’t want to wait for an official one.
