I recently guested on composer Michael Whalen’s Podcast, the Artist Expansion Podcast, where he coaches musicians and composers through the business side of a creative life. Michael’s own credentials are no joke. He’s a two-time Emmy winning composer with something like 900 TV and film scores to his name and over 1.5 billion streams. Most of his audience is scared of AI, and honestly, that’s a reasonable place to start. A lot of what’s happening with AI and music generation is unsettling if your paycheck depends on writing the notes yourself.

We didn’t talk about music generation. We talked about AI agents, the kind that handle your email, your calendar, and the busywork of running a creative business so you have more time for the actual creative work. I walked Michael through some of what I’ve built and where I think this is all heading.
