A Hopeful Word on the New Siri

I’m late linking this one, but it’s worth catching up on. Joanna Stern spent a week with the new Siri in iOS 27, and her verdict is that it’s very good.

Her take matches mine. The new Siri pulls context from Messages, Calendar, and the rest of your iPhone life, and it answers questions the old Siri would have flubbed. It’s solid. After a decade of Siri letdowns, it’s nice to write that sentence.

It’s not the most powerful AI on my devices. The things I do with Claude and a stack of MCPs run circles around anything Siri can pull off. That’s a high bar though, and it misses the point. Siri is finally part of the AI conversation at all. That’s new.

What I want now is for third-party developers to build for it. Siri gets a lot more interesting the moment my apps can hand it real work. If developers get behind it, the version Joanna reviewed is just the floor.
